THE PAST

"The great thing about the past is that it is over!"

Healing and Letting Go

Whatever has happened is the past. Do not think about the past. Learn from whatever has happened in the past and be cautious in the future. The past belongs to the past. Let me let go of it, because it does not belong to me.

Unhealed wounds and issues cause negativity in our holistic personality and give rise to the experiences of conflict, disharmony, persistent discomfort, self-dislike, and depression. Wounds to one or more of the seven centers have the effect of disempowering and perverting our personality and character.

As we learn about the seven center system, we can reprogram our centers to rid ourselves of unwanted attitudes, opinions, and beliefs and install positive and life affirming attitudes and experiences.

The past is over. It only exists in our brain as a bunch of memories, yet these memories can control our daily behavior until we confront and disarm them. Until we sort it out (healing) then it will control us, that is why we need to heal it and deal with it.

The conditions and circumstances that a person experiences in their childhood and adolescence have a deep and lasting influence upon their personality, behavior, and perception of themselves and Life. These perceptions can be changed by consciously inspecting them and trying to rid ourselves of unwanted, negative, and damaging conditionings.

The only good thing we can do about the past is to learn from it, extract any wise lessons and life insights that it may hold, and then let it go. Flush it out of our system. We cannot do anything about the events of the past, we need to let it all go and completely avoid living from regret.

Healing takes time, commitment, patience, love (not narcissism), self-respect, and the humility to accept that although we may be in pain today, we are gradually proceeding with our healing process and soon we will be through the worst. We need to walk before we can run. On the path of healing, it is perfectly natural to experience relapses. Don't give up or become disheartened - keep going and you will naturally succeed.

If we have been ill for a long time then health (in ourselves and others) may at first appear miraculous when if fact it is just ordinary. Don't put others on "a pedestal" just because they have attained something that we are also capable of doing. It is best not to compare ourselves with others at all! It is better to attend to our own holistic health in a steady and gradual manner.

When painful memories arise, we experience a response in our nervous system. This is usually experienced as anxiety or other negative emotions. This is the “fight or flight” stress response. When we are confronted by uncomfortable memories, we can learn to be still, relax, and let the memory and it’s response pass.

“Let the memory arise, let it pass, and let it go.”

  1. Surrender the pains of your childhood.
  2. Surrender the agonies of your adolescence.

Don’t live from regret. Regret is attachment to past disappointment and failure. To live our lives based upon regret is like drinking slow acting poison. Eventually we will be incapacitated and destroyed by it. Let us process the past, learn from our mistakes, and then let it go. It is over and unnecessarily dwelling upon the past can make us bitter and unavailable to serve life with love.

We all make mistakes – that is the nature of learning. If we can face our mistakes squarely and honestly, learn from them, and let go of the painful memories attached to them, then we have healed that part of ourselves. We have overcome the action/attitude that was the mistake and we can forgive ourselves. Let go of the regret and other negative emotions associated with the mistake and let go of the past. We cannot live from persistent regret as this destroys our vitality, poisons our life, and creates depression and disease in ourselves and the other people that we have relationships with.
